The ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING version is assembled on a full-format ATX standard PCB. The PCB, according to the manufacturer, has six layers, which “improves overall computer stability and increases overclocking potential of the processor”. The only illuminated part is the ROG logo integrated into the plastic I/O panel cover. The board supports Aura Sync and has three connectors for RGB ribbons. Among them there is a port for addressable LED elements. The board itself determines the number of LEDs on the second generation ribbons, and this, in turn, allows the software to automatically adjust the lighting effects for specific backlit devices.
The board has five expansion slots out of seven possible. We are talking about two PCI Express x16 and three PCI Express x1 slots. The main PEG-port is soldered in an ideal location. Firstly, it is as far away as possible from the CPU slot, allowing even the largest CPU coolers to be installed. Secondly, closer to the socket is the M.2 slot needed for SSD installation. Third, installing a graphics card with a dual-slot cooler will not overlap other motherboard expansion slots.
The main PCI Express x16 is reinforced. A metal frame called SafeSlot, according to ASUS, increases the strength of the port by 1.8 times under kink load and 1.6 times under pull load. It has 16 lanes of PCI Express 4.0. The second PCI Express x16 has no extra protection, works only in x4 mode, complies with the third PCIe standard and shares lines with other PCI Express x1 slots – such are the features of the chipset.

ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING does not support combined graphics cards NVIDIA SLI – only AMD CrossFire X is available here, in a very truncated format. The inability to normally combine GeForce and Radeon gaming graphics cards into arrays is a minor loss.
The board has six connectors for fans. All connectors received four pins each, but the system is able to regulate the frequency of rotation is not only “coolers” with PWM – you can also control the fans by simply changing voltage. It turns out, there is no need to buy additional equipment for the assembly – the same reobassembly, for example.
The connectors for the fans are arranged in pairs and divided into three sections. The AIO_PUMP connector is separated from the CPU_FAN to which the CPU cooler impeller is connected.
Next to the 24-pin motherboard power connector there is a set of four Q-LEDs indicating which stage (CPU, DRAM, VGA, BOOT) the system unit hardware is initializing.
The two M.2 ports on the motherboard support SSDs up to 110mm in length with removable aluminum heat sinks. They contact the SSDs with fairly thick thermal gaskets.
LAN connectivity is provided by an Intel I225-V 2.5 Gigabit controller, and wireless by Wi-Fi 6 AX200, which, in addition to Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax with up to 2.4 Gbps bandwidth, also supports Bluetooth 5.1. The “regular” ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING has no wireless module.
