ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming refers to representatives of full-fledged ATX form factor, hence the corresponding size of 305 × 244 millimeters. If we talk about the visual component, the textolite and almost all board connectors are made in strict black, of course, there are small designer’s inclusions of red in the area of radiators, and for some connectors a gray shade is used.
On the connectors panel there is room for a long list of ports, including: universal PS/2, one S/PDIF, one LAN, and five audio mini-jack jacks. The list of video outputs includes: one DVI-D, one DisplayPort and one HDMI, with the help of additional solutions there is also D-Sub. A set of USB, with your permission, I will reflect the list:
- 4 x USB 3.0;
- 2 x USB 2.0;
- 1 x USB 3.1 (Type-C);
- 1 x USB 3.1 (Type-A).
To implement USB 3.1 an additional ASMedia ASM1142 controller is used. As one of the features ASUS claims to implement protection against static electricity and power surges.
LGA1151 new look processor socket, which is designed for use with Intel’s 6th generation Core processors.
How to install the driver for Asus Z170 PRO GAMING
To download and install the entire driver package for your printer, follow the instructions in the table below:
- The first thing to do is to download the right driver. In the table below, select your operating system and click on the “Download” link
- After the download is complete, you must run the downloaded file. In most cases you should double-click on the installation file to do this.
- Further actions should be carried out by following the installation guide
- At the end of the installation, press the “Finish” button and connect the printer to your computer.

Four DIMM-slots for DDR 4 standard are unsoldered for installing the RAM. As we said before, the Intel Z170 chipset also supports DDR3L memory. The maximum amount of RAM that can be installed is doubled relative to the Intel Z97, and now amounts to 64 GB. The power supply system is single-phase, the locking keys are located only on one side.
In this part of the board there are four LEDs, which indicate the startup process of the system. In ASUS terminology, this technology is called Q-LED.
The ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING comes with six expansion slots. They are located in the following order:
- PCI Express 3.0 x1;
- PCI Express 3.0 x16 (x16 or x8);
- PCI Express 3.0 x1;
- PCI Express 3.0 x16 (x8);
- PCI Express 3.0 x1;
- PCI Express 3.0 x16 (x4).
The first two full-length PCI Express 3.0 x16 connectors come from the CPU lines and split 16 lines in half when using Nvidia SLI and AMD CrossFireX graphics card tandems.
All other connectors are implemented by means of Intel Z170 system logic set. The port layout is very good, for example, even with two video cards a couple of PCI Express 3.0 x1 and one full-size PCI Express 3.0 x16 (x4) remain available to the user.
As part of the sound path ASUS has always applied a proven track record. Of course, there is a technology with the implementation of a separate PCB area for the whole sound path. The component base includes Nichicon’s ELNA capacitors and a 300-ohm TI R4580I amplifier. The final complex, called SupremeFX, the manufacturer completed with a backlight and a cover that shields the sound codec. But the codec itself is obviously familiar to us – it is Realtek ALC1150.
A set of connectors for drives looks quite unusual, the whole thing in the appearance of SATA Express, which is not yet so familiar to the eye. Without its use, the user has access to six standard SATA 6 Gbit/s connectors.
Three completely separate radiators are responsible for the cooling of the warming elements of the board. Two of them are used to cool the power supplies. The third is for the system logic set. All radiators are quite simple: they are made of aluminum alloy and have no heat pipes in their set.
