Table of Contents
The Asus Strix Z270F Gaming motherboard comes in a small black box with the board name and supported technology logos laminated on it. Beside the board itself, the package contains user manual (English only), DVD with software and drivers, four SATA cables (all connectors are with snaps, two cables have angle connector on one side), SLI bridge for two video cards, board back panel cover, RGB Header cable. There’s also a special mounting frame to make it easier to install the CPU into the socket. And the most needed accessory included in the kit is a stand for cups, mugs and other things.
The shape factor
The Asus Strix Z270F Gaming board is designed in an ATX (305×244 mm) form factor. There are nine standard holes for board mounting.
Chipset and CPU connector
Asus Strix Z270F Gaming board is based on new Intel Z270 chipset and supports only Gen 7 and Gen 6 Intel Core processors (code-named Kaby Lake and Skylake) with LGA1151 socket.
Memory
The Asus Strix Z270F Gaming board has four DIMM slots to install memory modules. The user manual notes that the board supports unbuffered DDR4 memory (non-ESS), with a maximum memory capacity of 64GB (when using 16GB modules each).
How to install the driver for Asus ROG STRIX Z270E GAMING
To download and install the entire driver package for your printer, follow the instructions in the table below:
- The first thing to do is to download the right driver. In the table below, select your operating system and click on the “Download” link
- After the download is complete, you must run the downloaded file. In most cases you should double-click on the installation file to do this.
- Further actions should be carried out by following the installation guide
- At the end of the installation, press the “Finish” button and connect the printer to your computer.

Expansion Slots
The Asus Strix Z270F Gaming motherboard has three PCI Express x16 form factor slots, four PCI Express 3.0 x1 slots and two M.2 slots, one of which lets you install 2242/2260/2280/22110 drives and supports PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA devices while the other lets you install 2242/2260/2280 drives and supports PCIe 3.0 x4 devices only.
The first two slots (from the processor connector) with PCI Express x16 form factor are implemented with 16 PCIe 3.0 processor lanes, which, using multiplexers/demultiplexers, are grouped into either one PCI Express 3.0 x16 port or into two PCI Express 3.0 x8 ports. That is, if only one slot with PCI Express 3.0 x16 form factor (the one closest to the processor slot) is used, it will operate at x16 speed, but if both slots are used simultaneously, they will operate at x8 speed.
Another slot with the form factor PCI Express x16 is implemented based on four lanes of PCI Express 3.0 chipset Intel Z270. In fact, this is a PCI Express 3.0 x4 slot, but in the form factor of PCI Express x16.
It should be noted that the card supports Nvidia SLI and AMD CrossFireX technologies and allows to install two Nvidia and up to three AMD graphics cards.
Four PCI Express 3.0 x1 slots (with closed ends) are implemented through Intel Z270 chipset. One of the M.2 slots (M.2_1) supports PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA. It uses four PCI Express 3.0 chipset ports and one SATA 6Gb/s port. Another M.2 slot (M.2_2) supports PCIe 3.0 x4 devices only.
There are six SATA 6Gb/s ports on the board for connecting drives or optical drives, which are implemented on the basis of Intel Z270 chipset integrated controller. These ports support possibility to create RAID-arrays of levels 0, 1, 5, 10.
Network Interface
Asus Strix Z270F Gaming motherboard has a Gigabit network interface on the basis of Intel i219-V PHY-controller (physical layer controller) (MAC-level controller integrated into chipset is used). This controller uses the PCIe port on the chipset for connectivity.
