The basis of ASUS PRIME B450M-A is traditional for this segment brown PCB. To cool the chipset we use the simplest possible radiator mounted on plastic clips. Despite the economy, the board got simple backlighting, which is in the glowing stripe in the sound system and LED under the latch of the PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot.

As for the layout and ease of system assembly, the eye-catching feature is the perpendicular arrangement of four of the six SATA 6Gb/s ports. Access to them can be blocked only by a large expansion card installed in the lower PCI Express 3.0 x1 slot, which is unlikely. We had no complaints about the location of the other components.

Looking on the back side of ASUS PRUSIME B450M-A there is only a standard CPU socket backplane and various certification marks.

In the lower part of the board there are the following elements: front panel audio jack connection strip, COM and TPM ports, S/PDIF out, CMOS reset jumper and front panel connection strip. Altogether the chipset supports four internal USB 2.0 ports. As for USB 3.1 Gen 1, there are only six of them: four external and two internal.

The disc subsystem supports M.2 Socket 3 and six SATA 6Gbps ports. With AMD Ryzen processor installed, the M.2 Socket 3 port supports both SATA and PCIE 3.0 x4 drives, while for AMD Athlon only SATA mode is possible. There is also one limitation for these interfaces simultaneous use: in case of installing SSD to M.2 slot two SATA 6Gb/s ports (“SATA6G_5/6”) are unavailable.

ASUS PRIME B450M-A is equipped with four DIMM-slots with snaps on one side only for mounting memory modules up to DDR4-3466 MHz standard that can work in dual channel mode. The maximum memory capacity can be up to 64 GB, which will be enough for any task.

The processor is powered by a 4+2-phase circuit for the processing cores and additional nodes. The element base consists of solid-state capacitors, ferrite chokes and On Semiconductor 4C06B and 4C10B MOSFETs. The converter itself is based on the ASP1106GGQW digital PWM controller.

Only one video card is supported, which is logical for this price segment. The Multi I/O capability is entrusted to the ITE IT8655E chip. It provides monitoring and operation of the PS/2 and COM ports.
