The layout of ASUS M4A785-M motherboard is very well thought out: all connectors and ports are shifted to the edge for easier and more convenient connection to them. The board only features polymer-type capacitors in the CPU power system.
The location of the SATA slots is rather convenient and they will not interfere when installing long video cards. Snaps in the RAM connectors also do not interfere with the oversized video card. Chipset chips are cooled by aluminum radiators, painted blue.
The motherboard ASUS M4A785-M has two PCI slots, one PCIe x1 and one PCIe x16 slot, moreover the PCI Express bus complies with the 2.0 standard.
There is no more FDD-ROM slot on ASUS M4A785-M. Although there are still COM and LPT ports on the board, that will please the owners of the devices with such interfaces, but they took a very inconvenient place for the connection near the slots of RAM.
The power supply circuit is based on the ASP0903 PWM EPU controller and supports the EPU power-saving technology. On the back side of the CPU connector there is a metal thrust plate, which increases the rigidity of the motherboard.
The rear panel of the ASUS M4A785-M motherboard features the following ports:
- PS/2 for keyboard or mouse;
- Six USB ports;
- RJ45 socket for network connections;
- Optical S/PDIF;
- Six analog connectors for 8-channel audio;
- DVI, D-Sub and HDMI monitor connectors.
The ASUS M4A785T-M motherboard has two fan slots. For the CPU cooler the connector has a 4-pin design with PWM power support, and for the case ventilation 3-pin.

The basis of BIOS for ASUS M4A785-M is a code written by AMI. It can be found on all ASUS boards, so let’s go straight to its main features and peculiarities. The ASUS M4A785-M motherboard BIOS allows you to overclock the CPU in four modes: automatic, manual, test and overclock profile. At the same time, we are informed that changing the CPU overclocking mode does not guarantee its stable operation. Beginners are recommended to use the automatic CPU overclocking mode which allows increasing the frequency parameters by 2, 5, 8 or 10%.
The HT Link parameter can only be changed in manual mode from 200 to 2200 MHz in steps of 200 MHz. Here you can also change the supply voltage of the processor and its multiplier. You can change the multiplier on the CPU in increments of 0.5 from 8 to maximum.
Like all SB710 chipset based motherboards, there is an option to unlock processor cores using Advancend Clock Calibration feature.
Despite the low cost of the board, it has a huge number of memory settings. The memory size of the graphics subsystem can also be changed from 32 to 1024 MB.
